Coffee: The early bird social lubricant that puts a chirp in your step and a hoot in your hair. Yet to us, it’s more than just a pick-me-upper. Coffee is friendship. Think about it: whether friends are old or new, the sentence ‘wanna grab a cup of coffee?’ is always met with a smile. As four South Africans living in Hong Kong, our friendship has brewed over endless cups of coffee shared over couches, tables, picnic spots and aeroplane seats.
Maybe that’s why we were so drawn to the thought of roasting our own beans. But it wasn’t until we flew the coop and explored the coffee culture of Portland and Seattle that Cowbird Coffee was first hatched.
Back on our home turf of Hong Kong, we bought our first small batch roaster and started to learn everything there is to know about the art of coffee. Soon enough we found ourselves comparing our cappuccinos with our cortados, and chose to spread our wings to launch our own roasting company.
Together, we’ve worked tirelessly on developing a focused, hand-roasted range that is as great tasting as it is responsibly sourced, accessible, fresh and fun. After all, coffee shouldn’t be a wild goose chase through a maze of latte lingo.
